Riku Huttunen named Director General of Energy Department as of 1 January 2015
On 4 December 2014 the Government appointed Riku Huttunen (M.Pol.Sc), Director General at Energy Market Authority, to serve as the Head of the Energy Department for a five-year term from 1 January 2015 to 31 Decemeber 2019. Heads of department hold the title of Director General.
The post of Director General became vacant in the autumn, when Esa Härmälä, who had held the position since 2010, was named Director General of Metsähallitus as of 1 November 2014.
Huttunen has served as Director General of the Energy Authority since 2011. Before that, from 2005 to 2011, he served as a Commercial Counsellor, Counsellor, Industrial Counsellor, and as an acting Director General at the Ministry for Trade and Industry (from 1 January 2008 the Ministry of Employment and the Economy).
In addition, Huttunen has worked as a Counsellor for the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Finland's Permanent Representation in the European Union in Brussels during 2000–2004, as a Commercial Secretary and Senior Adviser at the Ministry of Trade and Industry in 1992–2000, and as a researcher at the Government Institute for Economic Research in 1991–1992.
A total of 27 people applied for the post of Head of Energy Department of the Ministry of Employment and the Economy.
